The city life has a tantalizing atmosphere of opportunity and success which have shaped our perceptions of the incredible, magical metropolitan- a place for jobs, education, social-life, scenery, public amenities and the latest attractions.
“The city is a fact in nature, like a
cave, a run of mackerel or an ant- heap. But it is also a work of art, and it
holds within it a commercial framework, many simpler and personal forms of art. Mind takes form in the city; and in turn, urban
forms condition mind.” - Lewis Mumford
What is urban living? Does it only
comprise of opportunities and success? Are there underlying threats to our well
being? Is urban living luxurious or pernicious? How can urban living cause pollution?
There can also be questions surrounding
the fact that the city has far greater eyesores-overcrowded streets, homeless
people, improper waste disposal, traffic, noise, industrial and vehicular
emissions to name a few. What is the real experience of urban living? What it
means to live in an overcrowded, busy and noisy environment with the stench and
waste from industrialization and toxic waste disposal?
It is my hope to show some realities
of urban pollution and how it impacts on our daily lives. This bog seeks to
explore the theme of urban pollution through the use of original photographs
that captures various aspects of pollution in the city and its relation to city
life. Each entry entails an in depth analysis and reflection of the photo in
relation to the urban environment, as well as supporting academic information. I
do hope that you enjoy reading my blog. Lastly, I would like to express my
thanks to friends and family members who assisted me in getting these photos
that captures the essences of my Blog.
Thanks
